Kandu Para Etha Aine Lyrics
Kandu paara aetha aine, sanda raaka ae sina se
Wedana... sitharaye, e geetha raawe asewa
Jeewithe pura...
Yaalu we dewate eda... kee katha asa
Yaalu wee dewate eda... kee katha asa...
Paaluwee henduwa sada... maruthe pawa
Gang ime ma dan kele, paasele pura....
Gang ime ma dan kele, paasele pura....
Ma soya, aawa wage wen wela giya....Kandu Para Etha Aine Lyrics English Translation
Along the mountain road, by the distant shore, the moon lingers like that smile
The pain stays painted in my heart, that song still echoing in my ears
All through this life of mine…
The day we fell in love, hearing the words she spoke
The day we fell in love, hearing the words she spoke…
Loneliness became my one companion always, even in the passing wind
At the river’s edge where I once played, all through my school days…
At the river’s edge where I once played, all through my school days…
As if she came searching for me, and then she was gone, parted from me

Kandu Para Etha Aine Song Meaning and Interpretation
A man is looking back on a love he lost, and the whole song moves at the slow pace of memory. He is somewhere along a winding mountain road, and the moon hanging over the far shore reminds him of her smile. In Sinhala song the moon is the standing image for a calm, gentle beauty, light that soothes rather than dazzles, so when he sees her smile in the moon he is telling us how softly she once made him feel. That tenderness is gone now, and the pain of it sits inside him like a picture he cannot paint over, while an old song keeps playing in his ears all through his life.
From there he goes back to the beginning. He remembers the day they fell in love and the words she said to him, and he says it twice, the way you turn a precious memory over and over because it is all you have left. But the line that follows turns the warmth cold: loneliness became his constant companion, so steady that he feels it even in the passing breeze. The wind here is not just weather. It carries her absence to him, a reminder that brushes past him wherever he goes.
The last verse is the most quietly heartbreaking. He pictures the riverbank where he played as a boy, the river and the school days standing for the innocent, unspoiled part of his life before her. She came into that world as if she had come looking just for him, and then she left, parting from him as suddenly as she arrived. He is left holding the whole shape of it at once, the first meeting and the loss, the moon and the empty road, a love that walked into his childhood and walked back out and took his peace with it.
