Malith Perera (මලිත් පෙරේරා) is a Sri Lankan pop singer who emerged from the first season of the television talent contest Sirasa Super Star and went on to record a catalogue of Sinhala pop ballads, beginning with his 2007 debut album Sihil Maruthe.
Perera was born in Pannala, a town in Sri Lanka’s North Western Province, the youngest in a family steeped in music. By his own account his grandfather was a respected harmonium player and his mother a state award winning musician, while an elder sister who teaches music shaped his early path. He went on to study North Indian classical music in Sri Lanka and Western classical and contemporary music in Australia, where he also trained as a chartered accountant.
His public career began at eighteen when he reached the final of Sirasa Super Star, Sri Lanka’s first reality music programme, finishing as a runner-up. The exposure launched his recording work, and in 2007 he released the album Sihil Maruthe, whose title track remains one of his best known songs.
Among his most played recordings is Chanchala, a duet with the singer Samitha Mudunkotuwa, alongside ballads such as Rathu Mal Gaume and Muwarada. His later work has leaned into collaborative singles and the integration of English-language originals.
