Nimal Gunasekara

Nimal Gunasekara (නිමල් ගුණසේකර) is a Sri Lankan vocalist whose recordings of Sinhala love songs continue to circulate widely on streaming and lyrics platforms. He is best known to listeners for melodic ballads such as Prema Maya Dale and Awata Thibunath.

Songs and recordings

Gunasekara’s catalogue centres on slow, sentimental Sinhala songs built around themes of love and longing. His best-circulated number, Prema Maya Dale Patalila Noyan (ප්‍රේම මායා දැලේ පැටලිලා නොයන්), has remained popular enough to be revisited in a later remake. Alongside it, songs like Ira Na Wenas Wela, Mata Nowei Oba Adare Kale, and Kasi Gewagannath Bari form the core of the material attributed to him on Sri Lankan music sites.

As a composer

Beyond his own vocals, Gunasekara is credited with the music for Dewadaara Gas Atharin, recorded by the singer and actor Vijaya Kumarathunga, placing his work within the wider circle of popular Sinhala song from that era.
