Dawasak Enawa Lyrics
Seethala sulangayi nihada rayayi
Mari maw thurule aadarayayi
Sura lowa rajakama hisin daraagena
Jesu kumaru nalawenne
Unuhumata nidiyanna
Dawasak enawaa lokaya jaya ganna
Niwee niwee dalwena tharu wiyane
Piduru athula suwa bara yahane //
Anaagathaya gana nodana wageyi oba
Hemihita hinahenne - thawa
Hinahenna nalawenna
Dawasak enawaa apa hama galawanna
Diwasi wadan heta itu wewee
Apa paw wenuwen diwi dewee //
Suralowa dew puthu apa wenuwen yali
Mihimatha upadeewee - dan
Nidiyanna nalawenna
Dawasak enawaa paapen mudawanna
Seethala sulangayi …

A cold wind, a silent night,
in Mother Mary’s embrace, there is love,
bearing the kingship of heaven upon his head,
the baby Jesus is being lulled to sleep
Sleep, in the warmth,
a day is coming, to conquer the world
Under a canopy of stars flickering, dimming and glowing,
on a comfortable straw bed, heaped soft, //
as if you know nothing of the future,
you smile softly, still
Smile, be lulled to sleep,
a day is coming, to save us all
The prophetic words will be fulfilled tomorrow,
he will give his life for our sins, //
the son of god in heaven, for our sake, again
will be born upon the earth, now
Sleep, be lulled,
a day is coming, to free us from sin
A cold wind, a silent night …

Dawasak Enawa Song Meaning and Interpretation
A gentle Christmas lullaby, sung over the newborn Jesus on the night of his birth. The scene is hushed and cold, a cold wind, a silent night, and in Mother Mary’s embrace, there is love, where the baby, bearing the kingship of heaven upon his head, is lulled to sleep. The refrain rocks him gently: sleep, in the warmth, a day is coming to conquer the world.
The middle lingers on the tender innocence of the infant. Under a canopy of flickering stars, on a comfortable straw bed, the baby smiles softly as if you know nothing of the future. The lullaby is quietly aware of what he does not yet know, and simply asks him, for now, to smile, be lulled to sleep.
The close names that future plainly, and it is heavy: the prophetic words will be fulfilled tomorrow, and he will give his life for our sins. The son of heaven is born upon the earth for our sake, and the refrains promise the days coming, to save us all, to free us from sin. Sung by Shivantha Fernando (a Marians original) to words by Kasun Primal, it is a tender Christmas lullaby that cradles the newborn Christ while gently foreseeing the sacrifice, and the salvation, his birth will bring.
