Raj Seneviratne (also spelled Raj Senevirathne, රාජ් සෙනෙවිරත්න) is a Sri Lankan singer and recording musician known for the radio favourite “Sili Sili” and for the 2012 album Reloaded. He has worked in both Sinhala and English music for around three decades.
Seneviratne has been active in the Sri Lankan music industry for roughly thirty years, a span that carried him from analog spool tape into modern computer-based recording. He writes and composes his own English-language songs, while for his Sinhala work he typically arranges the music and collaborates with separate composers and lyricists. He is also a vocal advocate of live performance over singing to backing tracks.
His best-known Sinhala song, “Sili Sili,” became a long-running request-line hit on SLBC and other Colombo stations. In 2013 he recorded a Tamil-language version of the song with lyricist Abdul Hameed, saying he wanted to reach Tamil listeners as well.
His early album Seethala Sanda Eliye (2004) carried the original “Sili Sili Seethala” recordings, and the later album Reloaded (2012) gathered re-recorded and acoustic-styled versions of his catalogue, including “Awanhale,” “Mal Mee Wasanthe” and “Mudu Palanda.” Several of these tracks circulate under “Marians Unplugged” and “Marians Cover” labels online.
