Shehan Kaushalya (ශේහාන් කෞශල්ය), sometimes credited by his full name Shehan Kaushalya Wickramasinghe, is a contemporary Sri Lankan singer-songwriter who writes the melodies for much of his own catalogue. He is best known among younger Sinhala listeners for the single Sepalikawo, an acoustic-leaning ballad that became his calling card on streaming platforms.
Kaushalya works in the singer-songwriter mould that has grown popular in Sri Lanka over the past decade, releasing singles directly to streaming and YouTube rather than through the older radio-and-film route. He performs his songs and, on most of them, also composes the melody. Sepalikawo, released in 2018, pairs his vocal with lyrics by Himali N. Liyanage and remains his most widely heard track.
Several of his releases carry his own melody composition, including Leesha, Gimhana Warsha (Miyulasi), and the duet Ra Nethu Wasa, which he recorded with Abhisheka Wimalaweera. He has also performed the songs in stripped-back acoustic versions on stage and on video.
Alongside Sepalikawo and Leesha, listeners associate Shehan Kaushalya Wickramasinghe with Mage Hithe and its companion Mage Hithe Oya Kere, gentle love songs that have drawn steady plays on streaming services. His devotional and reflective number Ayachana (ආයාචනා) shows the quieter, prayer-like side of his writing.
