My eyes ache searching for you, with no rest
On the days my heart breaks and weeps, I feel you all over again
Even if I left, leaving you alone, never to come back
Did my smile fade away that day, somewhere far off?
In my heart you fill me with love once more
when I see the tender pain held in your eyes…
Slowly the tears gather and fall at my eyes
Everywhere I look, your face keeps rising up again and again
Even though we parted, this fate has left me in sorrow
I can’t go on bearing this trouble alone
In my heart you fill me with love once more
when I see the tender pain held in your eyes…
If we ever meet again, shy and unsure with me
let’s find peace like before, coming close for a little while
No one has ever loved this deeply
I won’t leave, even in a dream, to go searching for stars
In my heart you fill me with love once more
when I see the tender pain held in your eyes…

Mage Hithe Oya Kere Song Meaning and Interpretation
A young man is still in love with someone he has parted from, and he can’t let her go. The song opens with his eyes worn out from looking for her everywhere, and with the way the heartache comes back hardest on the days he is already low. He admits he is the one who walked away and left her alone, and he wonders where his own happiness went the moment he did. That guilt sits under everything that follows.
The heart of the song is the chorus, where he says love has filled him up all over again, and what brings it back is the pain he can see sitting in her eyes. That is the tender part. He isn’t moved by her smile or her beauty here, he is undone by her hurt, and seeing how much she is still suffering is exactly what makes him realize the love never left him. In the second verse the tears come slowly to his own eyes too, and her face keeps appearing wherever he turns, so there is no escaping her. He says plainly that he cannot keep carrying this loneliness.
By the last verse he is reaching for a way back. He pictures them meeting again, a little awkward and hesitant the way two people are after a long gap, and he hopes they can settle into the easy peace they once had, even just for a while. The line about searching for stars is the quiet promise at the end. In Sinhala love songs, going off “to find stars” means chasing some other, prettier dream or another person, and he is saying he won’t do that, not even in his sleep. No one has loved her this much, so there is nowhere else for him to go.
What stays with you is how honest the ache is. This isn’t a grand reunion, it’s a man owning that the parting was his fault and admitting that her pain, more than anything else, is what keeps the love alive in him.
