Wasthi (වස්ති), also written as Wasthi Productions, is a Sri Lankan comedy and music duo founded by Anushka Udana and Dulaj Jayatillake. The pair built one of the country’s most-watched entertainment YouTube channels, and they are best known for parody songs that gently mock the melodrama of mainstream Sinhala pop while standing on their own as catchy original tracks.
Wasthi Productions began as a project between two friends, Anushka Udana and Dulaj Jayatillake, who started uploading comedy and music videos in the mid-2010s. Their work blends sketch comedy, original songs, and covers, and the channel grew into one of the leading Sinhala-language entertainment outlets on YouTube. The Sinhala name වස්ති appears on the official channel and on the duo’s release artwork.
Much of the Wasthi catalogue plays on familiar pop tropes. Sudu Ammiya (සුදු අම්මියා) leans into the over-the-top heartbreak ballad, while Korea (Yaman), sometimes listed as “Yaman Rata Yaman”, riffs on the well-worn theme of leaving home to work abroad. Tracks such as Yami Pain Yami and Adu Kule Para Haththa carry the same comic energy, and “Ann” (released as Eyage Nama Ann) and “Wate Gihin” round out the run of releases that travelled widely on social media. Although the songs are written for laughs, their hooks are sturdy enough that they circulate as remixes and cover versions well beyond the original videos.
What sets Wasthi apart is the mix of comedy writing and genuine pop production. Anushka Udana usually takes the lead vocal and on-screen comic role, with Dulaj Jayatillake sharing production and performance duties. The result is a body of work that Sri Lankan listeners and the diaspora play both for the jokes and for the tunes, which is why the songs keep resurfacing in dance edits and remixes years after release.
