Chanuka Moragoda (චනුක මොරගොඩ), who records and performs under the name Chanuka Mora, is a Sri Lankan singer, songwriter, and music producer. He is best known as the founder and front man of the collective Yaka Crew, through which he blends contemporary Sinhala pop and hip hop with local cultural references aimed at a young, internet-native audience.
Moragoda came up through the independent route familiar to a generation of young Sri Lankan musicians, releasing work directly to YouTube and building a following outside the traditional industry. He describes Yaka Crew as a collective effort rather than a solo vehicle, with the band’s members contributing solos and arrangements across his releases. The project has been profiled in Sri Lankan media, including a Daily Mirror feature on Chanuka Moragoda, Yaka Crew, and the “Adawwa” concept.
His output spans original singles and collaborative tracks, and he typically handles both the writing and the composition himself. On Dewagana (දෙවඟනා), for example, he is credited with the melody and the lyrics as well as the vocal, a pattern that runs through much of his catalogue.
Lyrics-lk hosts several of Chanuka Mora’s recordings, with Sinhala lyrics alongside English transliteration and translation:
Tracks released under the Yaka Crew banner that Moragoda wrote and composed are also on the site, among them Ravana (රාවණ), Karawala Hodda, and Yakkuth Pitiyata.
Chanuka Moragoda’s music sits at the meeting point of mainstream Sinhala pop and street-level hip hop, pairing modern production with lyrics rooted in everyday Sri Lankan life and folklore. That mix, delivered through self-released videos, is what has built his audience among younger Sinhala listeners both on the island and in the diaspora.
