Ananthayata Yanawamai (Sihina Mawannathi) Lyrics Singlish

Sihina mavanneti ahasa usata taniyama
Lanvenna venna ai samahara dura
Ahena dakina deval kotharam thibunada
Hadata danena deval ai etharam bara
Sira velaa nevathilaa nathinam seemaavaka
Nidahase igililaa yamu eka raenaka........

Saema dema nimaviya hak nimeshayaka
Ehema vunothin monava hitannada
Sihina viman vala kavulu piyan harunama
Anannathayata yanavamai e mohothema
Sira velaa nevathilaa nathinam seemaavaka
Nidahase igililaa yamu eka raenaka........

Sira velaa nevathilaa nathinam seemaavaka
Nidahase igililaa yamu eka raenaka........

Ananthayata Yanawamai (Sihina Mawannathi) Lyrics English Translation

Alone, high as a sky that dreams up nothing
Why is it that some distances never close?
However much there is to hear and to see
why do the things the heart feels weigh so much?
If we are not shut in and held inside some boundary
let us fly off free, the two of us as one flock……

Everything can be finished in a blink
and if it goes that way, what is there left to think about?
When the shutters of those dream houses swing open
we go straight into the endless, in that very moment
If we are not shut in and held inside some boundary
let us fly off free, the two of us as one flock……

If we are not shut in and held inside some boundary
let us fly off free, the two of us as one flock……

Ananthayata Yanawamai (Sihina Mawannathi) Song Meaning and Interpretation

Someone is standing under a wide open sky, saying to the person they love: come on, let’s go. The whole song is that invitation. It never gets loud about it, and it never explains where they are going, because the going is the point.

The first image sets the mood. The sky in Sinhala song is usually where you look for hope, the big generous thing above you. Here it dreams up nothing. It just hangs there, tall and blank, and the loneliness has the same height as that emptiness. Then comes the question that anyone who has loved someone at a distance will recognise: why do some distances stay exactly as wide as they were, however close you stand? The next two lines answer it in a way. The eyes and the ears are busy, there is plenty going on around him, and none of that touches the weight sitting in his chest. What you see is light. What you feel is heavy.

The chorus is where the song turns. The word for flock, raena, is the one you use for birds moving together in the sky, and that is the whole picture of freedom here. Not one bird escaping on its own, but two flying as a single formation. The condition he sets is careful: if we are not already locked inside some boundary. He means the limits people build and then forget they built, the rules, the fear of what others will say, the small safe life. If none of that has closed over you yet, then go, and go together.

The second verse gives the reason, and it is a sober one. All of this can be over in a blink. If that is true, then sitting around calculating is a waste of what little time there is. And the closing image is the title. Dream houses have shutters, and the moment those shutters open, you are already gone into the endless. He is saying that the crossing takes no time at all. You do not travel towards infinity, you arrive the second you stop holding yourself back.

What stays with you is how gentle the whole thing is for a song about breaking out. There is no anger at the boundary, no speech about freedom. Just a quiet hand held out, and a sky that has nothing in it yet, waiting for two people to put something there.
