Rupa Indumathi (also spelled Roopa Indumathi), රූපා ඉන්දුමතී, is a Sri Lankan playback and radio-era singer whose Sinhala recordings circulated through the Sri Lanka Broadcasting Corporation and remain in regular rotation among older Sinhala song collections. She is remembered for melodic, story-driven songs such as Viduli Dumriye and Sande Ennam.
Rupa Indumathi built her catalogue in the tradition of the Sri Lankan broadcasting era, when singers were introduced and sustained largely through radio rather than commercial releases. Her work spans gentle love songs, family-themed numbers, and duets, sung in a clear, unhurried style that suited the period’s arrangements.
One of her best known recordings, Viduli Dumriye Chanchala Nadaya (විදුලි දුම්රියේ), is a duet with Lakshman Rodrigo, with lyrics by Dayananda Kumarasiri and music by Mohamed Sali. The song’s railway imagery and call-and-response structure made it a lasting favourite.
For listeners who grew up with SLBC radio, Roopa Indumathi‘s songs are part of the everyday Sinhala songbook of that generation. Each page here pairs her lyrics in the original Sinhala script with an English transliteration and translation, so diaspora listeners can follow the meaning of recordings like Kurullane Pani Kurullane alongside the original.
