Indika Upamali (ඉන්දිකා උපමාලි) is a Sri Lankan singer of Sinhala light music, known for romantic ballads such as “Sanda Pahan Raye” and “Sundara Majikkari”. He came to wider notice in the 2000s, both for his recordings and for a lead role in cinema, and remains a familiar voice in the modern Sinhala love-song repertoire.
Upamali built his name through a steady run of slow, melody-driven love songs that sit in the mainstream of contemporary Sinhala popular music. His best-known single, “Sanda Pahan Raye” (සඳ පහන් රැයේ), appeared on a record of the same title and became the song most listeners associate with him, circulating widely across radio and streaming platforms.
Beyond music, Upamali stepped in front of the camera as one of two singers cast in lead roles in the 2004 Sinhala romantic drama Selamuthu Pinna, sharing the screen with fellow singer Athula Adikari. The crossover from playback and stage performance into film acting was a common path for popular Sri Lankan vocalists of the era.
One of Upamali’s most requested numbers, “Sundara Majikkari” (full title “Sundara Majikkari Kohedo”), pairs him with composer and singer Kasun Kalhara, whose arrangements helped shape the song’s sound. Across his catalogue Upamali leans on tender, slightly melancholic melodies, the kind written for late-night listening and weddings.
Each Indika Upamali page on Lyrics-lk presents the song in the original Sinhala script alongside an English transliteration (Singlish) and a translation, so the meaning of his lyrics is accessible to Sinhala readers and the diaspora alike.
