A sensuous, pastoral love song that treats the beloved as a wild jungle flower, kala mala, and love as something belonging to open air, moonlight and sea-wind rather than to ceremony. It opens at night: bending low she scatters her kisses, then lies “on the golden boat of sleep,” while his own “fire-burning heart” in the southeast cannot rest; and, lovely detail, she wears no earrings, as if leaving the shining to the sliver of moon itself.

The middle sets the romance firmly in nature. The jungle flowers on both sides admire her beauty, and even the dry wind drifts toward her “filled with love.” Then the song’s quiet manifesto: there is no wedding ring, only jungle flowers to adorn your hands, this is a love outside marriage’s formalities, and he tells her simply to watch the petals scatter in the sea-wind and smile.
