Two people, a young man and a young woman, are singing to each other after a love that could not stay whole. The song opens on its central picture: the moon, heavy with sorrow, slips out of the sky and falls to the earth. In Sinhala song the moon is the steady image of beauty and gentle light, the thing you look up to, so a moon that has lost heart and dropped from the sky is love itself brought low, a brightness that no longer hangs where it belongs.

What holds them together is something deeper than this one life. When the voice says the bond comes from “saṃsāra,” it means the closeness people believe is carried across many rebirths, the feeling that two souls have known each other before. That is why the heart stays awake and why the other one is still “lost,” still circling the beloved’s name even though, by every ordinary measure, they were never going to belong to each other. There is no anger here, only the ache of two people who are sure of each other and still cannot stay.
