Sandata Duka Hithila Lyrics
(Sandata duka hithila...//)
Ahasin bima wetila.....
(Sandata duka hithila ahasin bima wetila.....//)
Sansara hurukamin hitha awadiyen
Nuba thama man namin ai atharaman
Sansara hurukamin hitha awadiyen
Nuba thama man namin ai atharaman......
(Sandata duka hithila ahasin bima wetila...../)
Kisida mage nowena
Nuba laga inna man dannawa
Taraha wi noyena
Mathakaya wenna mata hithenawa.....
Kawadawath tharu eliye
Ira payanne naha dannawa
Heta ayeth tharu eliye
Handa payawi hitha kiyanawa........
Hemada hitha hoyana
Unuhuma wenna man dannawa
Herada dura noyena
Mata nuba dunnu pema thiyenawa......
Kawadawath......
(Sandata duka hithila ahasin bima wetila//)
Sansara hurukamin........
Sandata Duka Hithila Lyrics English Translation
(The moon grew sad…//)
And fell from the sky to the ground…..
(The moon grew sad and fell from the sky to the ground…..//)
With the closeness of saṃsāra (the bond carried across our lifetimes), my heart stays awake
Why are you still lost, holding on to my name
With the closeness of saṃsāra, my heart stays awake
Why are you still lost, holding on to my name……
(The moon grew sad and fell from the sky to the ground…../)
You who were never going to be mine
I know you are right here beside me
You who would never leave in anger
I find myself wanting to become a memory to you…..
Never under the light of the stars
does the sun rise, I know that well
But tomorrow, under the starlight again
the moon will rise, my heart tells me……..
The one who looks for my heart every day
I know I am meant to be your warmth
The one who would never turn away and go far
I still hold the love you gave me……
Never……
(The moon grew sad and fell from the sky to the ground//)
With the closeness of saṃsāra……..

Sandata Duka Hithila Song Meaning and Interpretation
Two people, a young man and a young woman, are singing to each other after a love that could not stay whole. The song opens on its central picture: the moon, heavy with sorrow, slips out of the sky and falls to the earth. In Sinhala song the moon is the steady image of beauty and gentle light, the thing you look up to, so a moon that has lost heart and dropped from the sky is love itself brought low, a brightness that no longer hangs where it belongs.
What holds them together is something deeper than this one life. When the voice says the bond comes from “saṃsāra,” it means the closeness people believe is carried across many rebirths, the feeling that two souls have known each other before. That is why the heart stays awake and why the other one is still “lost,” still circling the beloved’s name even though, by every ordinary measure, they were never going to belong to each other. There is no anger here, only the ache of two people who are sure of each other and still cannot stay.
The most tender turn is the wish to “become a memory.” Rather than fight to keep what is slipping away, one of them chooses to live on quietly inside the other as warmth and remembrance, the person who looks for their heart every day. It is love settling for a smaller, gentler form because the larger one was not allowed.
Then comes the song’s quiet hope. The sun does not rise in starlight, that much is plain, so the bright, full life they wanted together will not happen. And yet the heart insists that under those same stars the moon will rise again tomorrow. The moon that fell at the start is the soft, possible thing, a love that returns not as blazing daylight but as a gentle glow in the dark. The whole song lives in that difference, between a brightness they have lost and a softer light they can still hold on to.
