Thilina Ruhunage

Thilina Ruhunage (තිලින රුහුණගේ) is a Sri Lankan music director, composer and producer who has arranged and produced a large body of contemporary Sinhala songs. A pianist by training, he is known for melodic love songs and for building tracks end to end, from arrangement through recording, mixing and mastering, for many of the singers whose recordings appear across the modern Sinhala scene.

Career and work

Ruhunage works mainly behind the console rather than at the microphone, shaping the sound of songs for other vocalists while occasionally appearing as a performer himself. His output spans cultural and popular Sinhala material as well as themes, jingles and signature tunes made for television and film, a commercial discipline he developed through years inside Sri Lankan broadcast music production. He has been associated with Asia Broadcasting Corporation (the Hiru media group) as a composer and producer, and earlier taught keyboard and music at the Yamaha Music Centre.

He later founded Voizy Music and the associated label Voizy Universe, releasing original singles and covers and distributing them on Spotify, Apple Music and YouTube. His most-streamed recordings, including Ayemath Adaren and Pawela Kodu Akase, have each drawn millions of plays on streaming platforms.

Signature songs and collaborations

As a composer Ruhunage has worked with a wide range of vocalists. Santhana Susum, sung by Suneera Sumaga, is among his most recognised tracks, and he composed Sansara Adare for Athma Liyanage and Manamalai Adareth for Samitha Mudunkotuwa. He also collaborated with Dammika Edirisinghe on Sagare Tharam Adare Aran, one of several recordings where his name appears alongside the lead vocalist.
