Sashika Nisansala (also spelled Shashika Nisansala), සශිකා නිසංසලා, full name Sashika Nisansala Jayasumana, is a Sri Lankan playback and stage singer whose warm, expressive voice has carried more than seventy teledrama theme songs and over twenty film soundtracks since the late 1990s. Often described in the Sri Lankan press as a “singer of the heart,” she is one of the most-awarded female vocalists of her generation.
Nisansala was born on 28 September 1981 in Deraniyagala, in the Kegalle District. She began playing keyboard at the age of five and her early exposure to performance came through television music programmes such as Muthuhara and Udara. She studied at Anula Vidyalaya, Nugegoda, and went on to the University of Kelaniya, where she completed a degree in music and later postgraduate study in drama and theatre.
Active as a vocalist since around 1999, Nisansala built her reputation largely through playback work, lending her voice to teledrama themes and film songs across two decades. The song Me Ahasa Pura became one of her widely loved recordings, and her teledrama and film tie-in songs, including Sayure Jeewitha Nawa Perali (the Robinson Andaraya theme) and Nuba Walanda Nalawenna (from Kirilliyo), kept her voice on Sri Lankan screens for years.
Her recognition is reflected in a long run of honours: Sumathi Awards and Raigam Tele’es for best female vocalist, multiple State Television awards, and a record streak of SLIM People’s Awards for Most Popular Female Singer running across many consecutive years from 2016.
Among the recordings by Shashika Nisansala available on Lyrics-lk are tender, melody-led songs that show off her control and phrasing. The title Kiri Weherata Mal Neluwata shares its name with one of her albums, and tracks such as Sonduru Dewagana and Siyum Then remain favourites with listeners.
With a catalogue that ranges from devotional and film material to popular love songs, Sashika Nisansala has become a fixture of contemporary Sinhala music. The depth of her teledrama and playback work, paired with sustained popular recognition, keeps her among the most listened-to female voices in Sri Lanka and across the diaspora.
