The thought of going far away hides itself in secret within me.
Without you, how am I even supposed to live?
The tears I cannot hold back rise to my eyes.
I cannot stay even a breath away from you.
I cannot stay even a single breath away from you.
This love that welled up has melted into my heart.
Not even in a dream have I given you to anyone else.
If our merit in samsara, the cycle of rebirth, is not enough to be joined,
then let us both die together in one place.
Then let us both die together, in one place.
A thousand eyes are watching me with ill will,
and because of that, we cannot meet now.
If our merit in samsara is not enough to be joined,
then let us both die together in one place.
Then let us both die together, in one place.

Dura Yanna Sithuwata Song Meaning and Interpretation
A young man is in love with a girl he is not allowed to be with, and the song is his confession at the moment he realises they may be forced apart. The very idea of leaving her has crept into his mind without his permission, like something hiding in a corner he keeps trying not to look at. He says it plainly. Without her, he does not even know how to go on living. The tears come whether he wants them or not, and being even a breath away from her feels unbearable to him.
In the second verse the feeling deepens from longing into a kind of vow. The love that rose up in him has soaked all the way into his heart, and he tells her that not even in a dream has he ever offered himself to anyone else. Here the song reaches for an idea every Sri Lankan listener understands at once. In Buddhist belief, two people come together in this life because of pin, the merit earned across samsara, the long chain of past and future rebirths. When he says their merit may not be enough to unite them, he is saying the obstacle is bigger than this one lifetime, that fate itself may have been short on their side. So he makes the most absolute promise a lover can make in this tradition. If they cannot be together in this birth, let them die together in one place, so that they leave the world side by side and carry the bond into the next life.
The last verse names what is really keeping them apart. A thousand eyes are watching him with ill will, the disapproving family, the gossiping village, the people who would never let this love stand. That image of being surrounded by hostile eyes is the quiet heartbreak of the song. The two of them are not falling out of love, they are being pulled apart by everyone around them. What stays with you is the strange tenderness of his answer to it. Faced with a world that will not let them meet, he does not rage or beg. He simply chooses her over life itself and asks that, if nothing else, they at least get to leave together.
