Shanika Madumali (also spelled Shanika Madhumali; ෂානිකා මදුමාලි), full name Shanika Madumali Rathnayake, is a Sri Lankan playback and pop singer who rose to national attention as the winner of the third season of Sirasa Super Star in 2010. She is known for radio and television singles and for duets with contemporary artists, including the chart hit Bambara Nade with Bachi Susan.
Shanika Madumali Rathnayake was born around 1991 and grew up in Polgahawela, in Sri Lanka’s North Western Province. She entered the music field not through formal conservatory training but through the televised talent contest Sirasa Super Star, the Sinhala-language reality singing competition broadcast on Sirasa TV.
On 8 May 2010, a few months before her nineteenth birthday, she was crowned the champion of the show’s third series. The win moved her from amateur contestant to working recording artist, and much of her early repertoire drew on the classic Sinhala songbook she had performed during the competition.
Following her Super Star title, Shanika Madumali built a catalogue of singles, duets, and television theme songs that circulate widely on Sri Lankan music platforms and chart shows. Her 2013 duet with Bachi Susan, Bambara Nade (බඹර නාදේ), climbed local chart programmes soon after its release and remains one of her most recognised recordings.
She has also contributed vocals to teledrama and programme theme songs, among them the Swapna (Theme Song) and the civic anthem Nagitimu Sri Lanka, the Gammadda theme. The spelling Shanika Madhumali also appears across streaming services and lyric directories that index her work.
