Raween Kanishka (also spelled Raveen Kanishka, රවීන් කනිෂ්ක) is a Sri Lankan singer, actor and television presenter, best known to music listeners for a run of teledrama theme songs and to viewers for playing Anuhas in the long-running serial Deweni Inima. His voice carries several of the most-streamed Sinhala drama songs of the late 2010s, including Sandawan Ruwin and the Deweni Inima soundtrack number Galayana Gange.
Kanishka was born on 15 August 1991 in Kuliyapitiya and studied at Kuliyapitiya Central College, where he took part in music and stage work. He reached a national audience as the first runner-up in the fourth season of Derana Dream Star in 2012, the reality singing contest that launched much of his generation of playback and stage singers. The exposure turned a provincial competition entrant into a working studio vocalist within a few years.
From 2017 onward Kanishka became closely tied to television soundtracks, recording theme and incidental songs for popular serials. His role as Anuhas in Deweni Inima ran in parallel with his singing, and the two careers fed each other: a song from a serial he appeared in reached far more listeners than a stand-alone single would have. Lyrics-lk hosts several of these drama-linked tracks, among them Me Gewana Aruma Diwiya and Galayana Gange from Deweni Inima, Piyumanthiye from Sasara Kinnaravi, and Mage Thanikama from Seya.
He has also worked as a presenter, hosting later seasons of Derana Dream Star and televised award ceremonies, and has won repeated popularity honours at the Raigam Tele’es, Sumathi and SLIM-Nielsen people’s awards for his teledrama work.
His best-known recording is Neth Yaya Math Weeya (Sandawan Ruwin Sara), the most streamed song in his catalogue, alongside the widely shared Ada Nam Ma Hada. Both lean on the romantic, drama-friendly register that defines his output. As Raveen Kanishka the same singer appears across the major Sinhala lyric and streaming sites, which is worth noting for listeners searching the alternate spelling.
