This is an older brother singing to his little sister. “Nangi” is the Sinhala word for a younger sister, and the whole song is one long, tender address to her, half love letter and half memory. He calls her the lamp of his world and the meaning of his life, and from there the song settles into looking back on the years they grew up together.

The warmth here comes from small, ordinary pictures of childhood. He remembers her plucking flowers in the morning, carrying their scent with her, and he calls her his little bird, the one who filled the house with song.
