Akalanka Gunarathna (also spelled Akalanka Gunarathne) is a Sri Lankan singer and lyricist who emerged in the late 2010s, known for melodic Sinhala love songs such as Aithi Nathi Oyage and Samanaliye. He works both as a performing vocalist and as a songwriter who pens lyrics for other singers.
Gunarathna’s recordings began circulating widely around 2017, the year his single Aithi Nathi Oyage appeared on Sri Lankan music platforms including Hiru FM and Apple Music. For that track he handled both the vocals and the lyrics, with music by G3 Productions. The same period brought Samanaliye, a song built around gentle, romantic imagery that became one of his most recognised titles.
As a performer Gunarathne is featured on a small but distinctive set of releases, and he also collaborates as a writer: his lyrics appear on songs voiced by artists such as Dileepa Saranga, Samith Sirimanna, Harsha Dhanosh and Nalin Indika. On Mayavee he shares performing credit with Manakkalpitha.
