Kirille Ran Kerille Lyrics
Kirilliye ran kirilliye nokiya piyabala ....
Adare mata na kiya piyabala giya
Katada oba dan adare nokiya do pitu pa giye
Kirilliye ran kirilliye.......
Soke genede lokaye paradila apa ek wune
Kirille Ran Kerille Lyrics English Translation
Little bird, my golden little bird, you flew away without a word
You took flight and left, saying you had no love for me
Who is it you give your love to now, turning your back and leaving without telling me?
There’s no love left, my dear, and just like that the love has slipped from my heart
There’s no love left, my dear, and just like that the love has slipped from my heart
Little bird, my golden little bird…
It brings only sorrow; beaten down by the world, the two of us had come together
There’s no love left, my dear, and just like that the love has slipped from my heart
There’s no love left, my dear, and just like that the love has slipped from my heart
Little bird, my golden little bird…

Kirille Ran Kerille Song Meaning and Interpretation
A young man is watching the girl he loved walk out of his life, and all he can do is call after her. He doesn’t use her name. He calls her “kirilli,” little bird, and “ran kirilli,” golden little bird, the soft, fond way a Sri Lankan man speaks to the woman he holds dear. The whole song carries the ache of that one image: she was his bird, and she has spread her wings and flown.
What hurts him most is how quietly she went. She didn’t fight or explain. She simply said she felt no love for him and took off, turning her back and leaving without a real goodbye. He keeps circling the same wound, asking who she gives her heart to now, where that warmth went that used to be his. Calling her a bird makes the leaving feel light and effortless for her and heavier for him, because a bird that has decided to go cannot be held.
There is a small, bitter twist at the end. He remembers that they had only found each other in the first place because they were both worn down, two people beaten by the world who leaned together for comfort. So even the love that is now slipping out of his heart was born out of sorrow, and it returns him to sorrow. The line “the love slipped from my heart” is gentle on purpose. He doesn’t say it was torn away or stolen. It just loosened and fell, the way a tired bird lets go of a branch.
What you are left holding is that helpless tenderness. He is not angry at her. He still reaches for the kindest name he has for her even as she leaves, and that is what makes the song sting, the love is plainly still there in him, with nowhere now to land.
