Mihimadale Lyrics
Mihimadale anduru kusata eliya genaawaa
Kathaa karana thaarakaawo atha dilenawaa
Seetha sulan dasatha hamaa sisila sadanawaa
Bethlehemme gawamaduwaka bilindu nidanawaa

Into the dark womb of the earth, light was brought
talking stars shine far away
cold winds blow in every direction, making it cool
in a cattle shed in Bethlehem a baby sleeps
the baby Jesus sleeps . . .
Prince of Peace who erased the dark and lit the world
please come, forgiving this cruel world
please preach the deathless teaching to us once more
please build a beautiful tomorrow for the world . .
Golgotha’s hill of the cross, soaked in blood
the teaching you gave the world is remembered today
those who marked sweet Christmas without knowing its meaning
teach it to them, my beloved Jesus . .
Into the dark womb of the earth, light was brought
talking stars shine far away
cold winds blow in every direction, making it cool
in a cattle shed in Bethlehem a baby sleeps
the baby Jesus sleeps . . .

Mihimadale Song Meaning and Interpretation
This is a Christmas carol built around the quiet miracle of the nativity. Its first image is beautiful and gentle: light brought into “the dark womb of the earth,” stars that seem to talk shining far above, cold night winds sweeping the land, and at the centre of it all a baby asleep in a Bethlehem cattle shed. The whole verse hushes down to that single sleeping child, the infant Jesus, the light the darkness was waiting for.
The middle turns from scene to prayer. The child is named the “Prince of Peace” who wipes out darkness, and the singer pleads with him to come to a world that has grown cruel, to forgive it, to preach the “deathless teaching” again, and to build a kinder tomorrow. It is the heart of the carol: not just remembering a birth, but asking the one who was born to heal the present.
The last verse reaches ahead to the cross. “Golgotha’s hill soaked in blood” recalls the crucifixion, the price behind the teaching the world still remembers. Then comes the song’s real ache, that so many “mark sweet Christmas without knowing its meaning,” celebrating the day while missing the point of it. The final line is a tender request: beloved Jesus, teach that meaning to us. What the listener is left with is a carol that moves from a sleeping baby to a plea for a world that has forgotten why the baby came.
