Hiran Thenuwara

Hiran Thenuwara (හිරාන් තේනුවර), often credited as Hiran Thenuwara (6th Lane), is a Sri Lankan singer, songwriter, and music producer who emerged from the island’s Sinhala hip-hop and pop scene of the mid-2000s. He is associated with the 6th Lane movement and the Drill Team collective, and he works across all three musical roles, performing, composing, and writing lyrics.

Career and breakthrough

Thenuwara built his profile in the wave of Sinhala urban music that grew alongside acts such as Drill Team and the wider 6th Lane circle, blending rap, R&B textures, and melodic pop. His 2014 album, sometimes listed as Sina Mal Kinitti, gathered several of his best-known tracks and marked his step from collaborator to a recognised solo name. Much of his output sits at the meeting point of rap delivery and sung hooks, a style that placed him among contemporaries like Smokio and the broader local rap community.

Signature songs and collaborations

As a performer, Thenuwara is heard on Arumosam and the title-style track Sinaa Mal Kiniththie (සිනා මල් කිණිත්තියේ). He teamed with the rapper Smokio on Cricketians, and recorded the duet Punchi Adambarakari alongside his own composition and vocals.

Beyond his own voice, Thenuwara has shaped songs for other artists as composer and lyricist. He composed Mandaram Wahi for Sixth Lane (6th Lane), and his songwriting credits include the lyrics for Suragana Kirilliye recorded by Devashrie. He also performed and wrote Mage As Diha Bala, a track on which he handled the vocals, music, and words.
