Ajith Muthukumarana (also spelled Ajith Muthukumarna), අජිත් මුතුකුමාරන, is a Sri Lankan playback and stage singer whose recordings of “Sudu Araliya Mala” and “Pethi Gilihi Giya Mala” have kept him in steady rotation on Sinhala radio and at live shows for decades. He works in the popular melodic idiom, the kind of love song and gentle narrative that bands cover at weddings and musical nights.
Muthukumarana built his catalogue across the 1990s and 2000s, and his best-known recordings were gathered into the multi-volume Best Of Ajith Muthukumarana compilations. The 2005 release Sudu Araliya Mala takes its title from one of his signature songs, and tracks such as “Rahasak Kiyai Ae” and “Pasal Bime Hamuwu” remain among his most requested. He has continued to release new material in recent years, including the single “Rathu Pata Handawe.”
On stage he is a familiar voice on the live circuit, performing with backing bands and appearing on televised music programmes. His work also overlaps with younger artists; the song “Oyage As Deken,” which he sings, was composed in collaboration with Teran Madhuranga.
