Lakshman Hilmi (ලක්ෂ්මන් හිල්මි) is a Sri Lankan singer and composer of Sinhala songs whose recordings date back to the 1970s. He is best known for melodic love songs such as “Kaha Mal Aththak Saluna”, “Bol Pini Watena Me Re Yame” and “Sihina Paradeesaye”, and he is registered with the Sri Lanka Singers Association (SLASA).
Lakshman Hilmi works both as a vocalist and as a tune composer, and on some recordings he is also credited as the lyricist. His catalogue centres on gentle, romantic Sinhala songs in the classic playback and light-music style of the era. Beyond singing, he composed the melody and wrote the words for Situwarunta Salu Wiyanna, performed by Himashel Alwis, and contributed compositions for other vocalists.
Among the songs most associated with him are Pem Benda E Sitha Handawa, Samanala Palama Addara and Me Kandulu Aran Yanna. The yearning ballad Mila Karanna Bari Oba Aganama Wasthuwak and Malathi Nubai Nubatath Adare Thamai remain favourites among listeners who follow his work.
