Cranked up on the buzz, half out of my mind, gone crazy
Today our crew is on, bellies emptied out and ready
Cut loose, having fun, faces grinning ear to ear
Just say yes and dive in, feel the sweet, easy high
Dancing like a wild jogi, sitting down and acting up
Going mad, the moon up there shining bright
Liquor going down, the belly clouding over
The shape and the road are set, no hook to hang it on
Mom will give me a beating, go hide the rice in the corner
Just keep quiet, if our little secret gets out we’re done
She handed it over, asking for it, fit to eat them up
Wrecked again, that thing, the bell ringing in the room
Crying out alone to the sky, eyes dancing, swaying
Solid, top-class, the music line in full swing
Spinning round like a man dancing struck by lightning
Fully Hindustan now, a king strutting it all out
Wasted out of it, something inked on the arm, a tattoo
A loudmouth face talking big, hauling a chair around
Lion’s roar, no hands needed, just sitting there however
Are we mad, all twisted up, a stew of head and bones

Sukuruththan Song Meaning and Interpretation
“Sukuruththan” is a wild Sinhala party rap, the kind of song that lives at a late-night session with the boys when the drinks are flowing and nobody is making much sense anymore. It is not a love song or a story with a tidy plot. It is the sound of a crew getting completely cranked up and letting loose, and half the fun is that the words tumble out as deliberate slang and nonsense, the way friends talk when they are buzzed and just riffing off each other.
The title itself sets the tone. “Sukuruththan” is street slang for being hyped, lit, charged up past the point of sense, and the whole song stays in that state from start to finish. The opening lines describe the crew gathering with empty stomachs, cutting loose, grinning, and being told to just say yes and sink into the easy high. From there it only gets louder. The singer dances like a “jogi,” a wandering ascetic who spins himself into a trance, which here just means whirling around drunk and out of control while the moon shines overhead. Lines about liquor going down and the belly “clouding over” capture that fuzzy, heavy feeling of being properly drunk, and “no hook to hang it on” is his way of saying there is no holding any of this together anymore.
A lot of the imagery is local slang that an outsider would miss. “Mom will give me a beating, go hide the rice” is the universal joke of a grown man still scared of his mother catching him drunk, sneaking around the house so she does not find out. “Fully Hindustan” is a Sri Lankan way of saying completely off your head, totally gone, and “a king strutting it all out” is the false swagger that comes with a few drinks, feeling like royalty while you stagger. The picture of “a man dancing struck by lightning” is exactly that jerky, electrocuted flailing people do on the floor when they have stopped caring how they look. Even the closing line, calling the whole crew a “stew of head and bones,” is just affectionate self-mockery, all of us mashed up and twisted, having a riot.
There is no deeper ache to chase here, and pretending there was would be dishonest to the song. The point is the chaos and the laughter, a crew of friends abandoning all dignity for one loud, messy night. What you are left holding is the grin of it, that reckless, free feeling of being young, a little drunk, and surrounded by your people, where nothing matters except the music and the next round.
