Nothing broke between them. She simply left, and now he is left counting his breaths, each one bringing back a memory that pulls at him until his eyes well up.

The ache here is the helplessness of being left without an explanation. He keeps saying it plainly, no quarrel, no bad blood, she just walked away. And instead of bitterness, he lands somewhere gentler and sadder: he isn’t angry with her, and every day he wishes only for her to be happy. That line is the heart of the song.
