This is a Christian devotional whose whole prayer is contained in one word: harawanna, turn me. Jesus, turn me and let me be yours, the singer pleads, turn me so that I turn back to you, and do not let me stray. It is the cry of someone asking to be changed, to be converted in heart.

What makes the song beautiful is how it answers that prayer, by placing the singer inside the Gospel’s own moments of transformation. Hearing the voice, he says, I am the water that turned to wine at Cana; seeing the hand, I am the sea of Galilee that fell still when Jesus calmed the storm. He becomes the tears of the woman who washed Jesus’ feet and was forgiven, and, sprouting from rough stone, the one born again from the cross.

The last verse continues the pattern with two more famous turnings. The heart that turned in the boat was mine, he sings, recalling the empty net suddenly filled and the fishermen called to follow, and the heart turned on the road to Damascus was mine, the moment Paul fell blinded and rose a believer. By making himself each of these, the singer is really asking one thing: change me the way you changed all of them. It is a thoughtful, scripture-steeped song about longing to be transformed by faith.
