Udaya Sri Wickramasinghe (උදය ශ්රී වික්රමසිංහ, also written Udaya Shree Wickramasinghe and often credited simply as Udaya Sri) is a Sri Lankan singer, composer, and music director, best known as the founder and lead voice of the band Centigradz and for scoring the 2015 film Spandana.
Wickramasinghe took up the electronic keyboard at the age of thirteen and later added the guitar, building toward a career that blended pop arrangement with melodic Sinhala songwriting. His debut single “Traditions” appeared in 2003, and his debut album “Heritage” (Urumaya) followed in 2005, a release widely reported as one of the fastest-selling debut albums in the Sri Lankan market of its time.
Working under the Centigradz name, Udaya Sri became part of the wave of band-driven Sinhala pop that defined the mid-2000s, pairing studio production with the romantic, longing themes that run through much of his catalogue.
As a composer he wrote the music for the films The Rainbow and Spandana (2015). The Spandana score is where his work is most visible on Lyrics-lk: he composed and performed Me Ra Dilena Tharuka with Anupama Gunasekara, and Oya Muwe Hasarel Soya with Umariya Sinhawansa, who also features on the film’s “Man Vinda Adare.” His duet Gimhana Sihine with Sashika Nisansala is another collaboration drawn from this period.
Across his catalogue Udaya Sri leans on soft, emotive vocals and ballad arrangements, with most of his best-known songs working through themes of love, separation, and memory. For listeners who grew up with the Centigradz sound, the songs of Udaya Shree Wickramasinghe remain a familiar part of the 2000s Sinhala pop landscape, and Lyrics-lk presents these lyrics in the original Sinhala script alongside English translation and meaning.
