He sees her every day, morning and evening, and in his own head she is already his. That is where the song opens, in a feeling most of us have carried at some point. The trouble is that the moment he thinks about saying it out loud, his heart goes unsteady, and asking her about love feels less like hope and more like fear. He burns with the question of whether she will ever be his, and he never asks it.

Then he says her name, Radha, twice, and lets it sit there. He tells her she lives inside his heart and wraps around him like the moon. In Sinhala song the moon is the standing image of calm, cool beauty, light that keeps you company through the dark instead of dazzling you. So he is not saying she overwhelms him. He is saying she stays with him all night, quietly, and that is exactly why he cannot sleep. The line about her creating his feelings through the night carries the whole first half of the song.

The second verse turns, and the turn is where the song earns its ache. She said no. She did not want the love he never quite got around to offering, and she went. What he does with that refusal is the most Sri Lankan thing in the lyric: he refuses to become bitter. “I’m not angry. I just want you to be happy.” He says it twice, once in each verse, like a man convincing himself. Meanwhile the picture he gives of his own state is bleak, left in the dark, no one beside him, sunk in tears.

The third verse gives us the memory he keeps replaying. She smiled at him on the guru para, the red gravel lane that runs through every Sri Lankan village, and then kept walking into the distance. That ordinary road is the whole heartbreak in one image: a smile that meant nothing more than a smile, and a back getting smaller. His last words are not a demand but a request, let me stay near you, don’t leave this world and leave me behind. He has given up on winning her. He is only asking to remain somewhere in her life, which is a smaller and sadder thing to want, and that is what the song leaves you holding.
