Ranga Nadeeka Lyrics English Translation
Ranga Nadeeka, the day you walked away from me
Nadeeka, don’t ever come back to me again
I’m still young and tender, I can’t bear it
The day I saw you, you gave your word, and I can’t ask for it back
She lied to me every single day, and I won’t be fooled
Why did you hurt me like this? I can’t take it
Nadeeka, don’t ever come back to me again
Ranga Nadeeka, the day you walked away from me…..
“Your heart is with me, my heart is with you,”
you said it, you remember
To go and give that heart of yours to another lover,
why were you so foolish?
I keep picturing you leaving for someone else,
and my heart was shaken
Why hurt this helpless heart of mine,
why are women so fickle?…..
I’ll be alone, but I don’t want you
Don’t ever meet me again…..
Ranga Nadeeka, the day you walked away from me
Nadeeka, don’t come back to me again
I’m still young and tender, I can’t bear it
The day I saw you, you gave your word, and I can’t ask for it back
Ranga Nadeeka, the day you walked away from me
Nadeeka, don’t come back to me again…….
I was fooled by that face of yours, to my misfortune,
because you looked so beautiful
The property my parents handed down to me as my inheritance,
I gave even that to you
The gold, the gems, the pearls, none of it is mine today,
bearing the sorrow in my tears
Today I am alone, my heart has gone silent,
because women are fickle
I’ll be alone, but I don’t want you
Don’t ever meet me again…..

Ranga Nadeeka Song Meaning and Interpretation
A young man has been left by the woman he loved, and this is him talking to her as she walks out of his life. Her name is Nadeeka, and he calls her “Ranga Nadeeka,” ranga meaning something like dazzling or showy, a hint right away that her beauty was the bright surface he fell for. He is still raw and new to all this. He calls himself kiri koduyi, literally “milk-tender,” the Sinhala way of saying someone who is still young and inexperienced, the way an unripe shoot is soft and easily bruised. So the hurt lands harder than it would on someone older and more guarded.
The song moves from heartbreak into something sharper. At first he is just begging the wound to close, telling her not to come back because he can’t bear seeing her again. Then he remembers the promise. “Your heart is with me, my heart is with you,” she once said, and he holds that line up against what she did, leaving to give that same heart to another man. He keeps seeing it in his mind, her walking off to someone else, and it shakes him. Out of that pain comes the bitter refrain, gahenun chapala, “women are fickle,” a generalization born of one wound, the kind of thing a betrayed young man says when the betrayal is too fresh to think straight.
The last verse is where the real sting is, and it is very Sri Lankan in its detail. He didn’t just lose his heart, he lost his inheritance. He admits he was fooled by her looks, and then he confesses that the land and property his parents passed down to him, his urumaya, the family inheritance that in village life is a man’s whole security and standing, he signed it all over to her. The gold, the gems, the pearls, ran mini muthu, all gone. Now he sits with nothing but his tears, alone, his heart gone golu, silent and numb. So this is not only a love that failed. It’s a young man who gave away everything he had, his trust, his future, his family’s land, and was left with empty hands and the lesson learned too late.
What stays with you is that mix of grief and pride. He tells her he will be alone and he means it, he would rather have the loneliness than have her back. The repeated plea, don’t come back, don’t meet me again, isn’t really anger so much as self-protection, a young man building a wall around a wound he knows would open the moment he saw her face again.
