Oba Haa Ma Haa Eda Lyrics
Oba haa maa haa edaa
Badi aadare wedanaa
Susumakwa hada paarawaa
Oba aaye hamuweyi kiyaa
Oba haa maa haa edaa
Pem banda eka sithin
Maghaharune ayi sanekin
E sihinaya dan sihinayaka lesin
Kandulakwa nimawee gohin
Oba haa maa haa edaa
Apa prema chaarikaa
Kandulakwa nimawee giyaa
Premayata tharam
Hanguman susuman danenaa
Siyum saradam
Oba haa maa haa edaa
Oba Haa Ma Haa Eda Lyrics English Translation
You and I, back then
the pain of the love that bound us
becoming a sigh, piercing the heart
telling myself you will meet me again
You and I, back then
We fell in love with a single heart
why did it slip away in an instant?
that dream, now, like a dream,
has ended as a teardrop and is gone
You and I, back then
Our journey of love
ended as a single teardrop and went
feelings and sighs
felt as deeply as love itself
subtle mockeries
You and I, back then

Oba Haa Ma Haa Eda Song Meaning and Interpretation
This is a look back at a love that ended too suddenly, sung by someone still holding on to the hope that it might return. The refrain keeps circling to the same tender place, “you and I, back then,” as if the past is the only room he still wants to live in. The pain of the love that once bound them has turned into a sigh that pierces the heart, and he comforts himself with a fragile promise: you will meet me again.
The second verse asks the question that heartbreak can never quite answer. They loved “with a single heart,” fully and as one, so why did it “slip away in an instant”? There is no villain and no explanation, only speed and loss. That shared dream, he says, has now become dreamlike itself, dissolving “as a teardrop” and vanishing, love reduced to the single drop it wrung from his eyes.
The final verse names the cruelty of it with a striking phrase. Their whole “journey of love” simply “ended as a teardrop and went,” and the feelings and sighs that were “felt as deeply as love itself” now strike him as siyum saradam, subtle mockeries, as if fate quietly made fun of how sincerely they meant it. What the listener is left with is that specific ache of a love that was real and mutual yet ended without reason, remembered by someone who cannot stop returning to “back then,” half grieving and half still waiting.
