Marunu Hithe

Marunu Hithe Lyrics English Translation
You keep tormenting a heart that is already scarred
I don’t want your pride
You burn me through the dark of the night
Don’t treat me like a stranger
It will all come back to me again, hurting me the whole night through
Those tender nights are gone
You buried our past right there beside you
I can’t say goodbye, my heart won’t let me
Asking for a little room in a heart that is already dead
I’ll stay away, I won’t come looking for you
The bright talk we had has gone quiet
Close to me, wrapped around me
you were there in those days
I remember, and with that love
I found some peace
In a heart that is already dead…
Like I’m all on my own
is how this evening feels
You’re not here, you’re far away now
we’ve come apart
In a heart that is already dead…

Marunu Hithe Song Meaning and Interpretation
A young man is talking to the woman who has left him, and what he wants from her is not a second chance. He wants her to stop being cold. Her pride, her sudden distance, the way she now treats him like someone she barely knows, that is what keeps cutting into a heart that was already carrying scars. He isn’t shouting at her either. He asks quietly, the way you ask when you already know the answer.
The night is where all of it catches up with him. Sinhala songs use the night this way often, as the hour when there is nothing left to distract you and the memories come back on their own. He says the tenderness they shared at night is gone, and that the whole past has been buried right beside her, as if she walked away and left a grave behind her. And still he can’t bring himself to say goodbye. That line is the honest one in the song. He knows it’s over, and his heart hasn’t agreed to it yet.
The title image, the dead heart, is the strongest thing here. He isn’t asking her to love him again. He’s asking for a small space inside a heart that has already stopped, which is his way of saying he expects nothing. Then he takes even that back: he’ll stay away, he won’t come searching. The bright, easy talk between them has gone silent, and silence after two people used to talk freely is heavier than any argument.
The two short verses set the past against the present without a word of complaint. Once she was close, wrapped around him, and remembering that love used to comfort him. Now there is only the evening, and evening in Sinhala song is the loneliest hour of the day, when the light is going and the house is quiet. He notices the emptiness there before he says the plain fact out loud: she isn’t here, she’s far, they’ve come apart.
What the song leaves you holding is a man who has done the hardest part of the letting go and still can’t finish it. He has accepted the distance, he has stopped chasing her, and the one thing he asks for is that she not be cruel about it. It’s a small, tired request, and that is exactly why it lands.
