What holds the song together is memory. He reaches back to the paddy field of his “little uncle” on the day they planted seedlings, both of them knee-deep and sinking in the mud. For anyone raised in a Sri Lankan village that image is instantly warm: transplanting rice is shared, muddy, laughing work, and it is often where young people first grew close.
