A young man has found the person he wants to spend his life with, and the whole song is him turning to her and promising what their life together will be. He doesn’t sing about missing her or aching for her. He sings about beginning. That’s the mood here, the quiet, certain joy of someone who knows the waiting is over.

The opening image is the one to hold onto. He pictures his life as a book, and now a new page is being filled, and what is being written on it is her, turned into a song. Then he says he once prayed for just a single lamp, “pahanak pathu,” and instead he found her. A lamp in a Sri Lankan home is small and humble, the bit of steady light you ask for to get through the dark.
