Niranjala Sarojini (also spelled Niranjala Sarojani; නිරංජලා සරෝජිනී) is a Sri Lankan playback and radio singer whose voice was a steady presence on Sri Lanka Broadcasting Corporation (SLBC) programmes and on a long run of duets recorded with her husband, the late singer Abeywardena Balasuriya. She is best remembered for warm, melody-led Sinhala songs such as Siripade Wandawanna and Me Ganga Me Duru.
Niranjala Sarojini comes from a household closely tied to Sinhala music. She is the younger sister of the veteran singer Malkanthi Nandasiri, who is married to the composer and vocalist Sanath Nandasiri. Niranjala met Abeywardena Balasuriya while both were singing for SLBC, and the partnership that followed shaped much of her recording career.
Working largely within the SLBC and radio-song tradition, Niranjala Sarojani built a catalogue spanning solo numbers and duets. Alongside Abeywardena Balasuriya she recorded an extended series of joint releases, including the Abey-Niranjala duet collections and patriotic-song compilations issued over the years. Their shared songs on Lyrics-lk include Mage Hitha Piri Thibenne, Atha Wanniye Guru Gei Para Asa and Bambareku Handuwa.
She also appears on duets with other established artists, among them Victor Rathnayake on Mina Nuwan and Bandara Athauda on Sihinayaki Oba. After Abeywardena Balasuriya’s death in 2010, Niranjala Sarojini stepped back from active performance.
Niranjala Sarojini’s recordings sit within the gentle, lyric-forward strand of Sinhala radio song, and her duet work with Abeywardena Balasuriya remains the most familiar part of her output for listeners who grew up with SLBC broadcasts. For the diaspora audience, Lyrics-lk presents her songs with Sinhala lyrics, English transliteration and translation, so the meaning of pieces like Siripade Wandawanna and Me Ganga Me Duru travels with the melody.
