The first thing the song names is the reason for the parting, and it puts the blame nowhere but on fate. “Daiwaye saradamin” means by destiny’s mockery, as if fate played a cruel little joke on them. In Sinhala this idea of daivaya, the hand of destiny, carries real weight.
