A young man has found the girl he loves, and he is so taken with her that an ordinary word like “girl” will not do. He calls her his suranganawi, his fairy, the celestial maiden of old Sinhala stories, and says she came into his life the way the moon rises into a dark sky. That single image sets the whole mood of the song. The moon in Sinhala lyric stands for a calm, glowing beauty that lights up everything around it, so to say she rose like a moon is to say his world was dark before her and she is the soft light he now lives by.

From there the song is pure happiness, the kind of new love that feels almost too good to be real. He says he never had a dream come this close to him, and that love itself has grown wings and flown. When he reaches for “flowers bloom over my head,” he is using a familiar Sinhala way of describing joy so big you can hardly hold it, the feeling of being lifted clean off the ground.
