Chamath Sangeeth (චමත් සංගීත්, sometimes written Chamat Sangeet) is a Sri Lankan music producer, composer and audio engineer, best known for creating Manike Mage Hithe (මැණිකේ මගේ හිතේ), the lockdown-era song whose 2021 cover with Yohani became a worldwide hit. He records and releases through his own C Music studio and has produced singles for many of the current generation of Sinhala pop artists.
Chamath grew up in a family where almost everyone played or worked in music. He has said he began making his own small compositions around 2009, teaching himself on FL Studio and starting with jingles and remixes before friends in the industry helped him grow into a working producer. His sound blends hip-hop, R&B and Sinhala pop, and he has spoken about wanting to bring rap closer to the Sri Lankan mainstream, an instinct that shows in how often his productions pair a melodic vocalist with a rap verse.
The original Manike Mage Hithe took shape in 2020, when singer Satheeshan Rathnayaka asked Chamath to produce a track for him. With lyrics and a rap verse by Dulan ARX, the song went through months of drafts at C Music Studio before its July 2020 release, and it found a solid audience in Sri Lanka. The next year Yohani covered it on TikTok, Chamath approached her about an official version, and the cover was put together in about two days and released on 22 May 2021. That recording passed 190 million YouTube views within three months, drew a widely shared shoutout from Amitabh Bachchan, and reached number 8 on the UK Official Charts Asian Music Chart. In 2022 the song crossed into Bollywood as “Manike” in the film Thank God.
Beyond Manike Mage Hithe, Chamath Sangeeth composes and produces on commission, often spending months on a single track. Songs he composed that are hosted here include Sudu Ammiya, sung by Anushka Udana of Wasthi; Priye (ප්රියේ), the 2024 single by Shanudrie Priyasad; and Liya Liyaa Dun Adare Ma, which pairs Dilki Uresha with rapper Smokio, one of the rappers Chamat Sangeet has named among his favourites.
Each of these pages presents the song’s lyrics in Sinhala script with an English transliteration and, where available, a translation and meaning.
