Shenal Maddumage

Shenal Maddumage (ශෙනල් මද්දුමගේ) is a Sri Lankan music producer, singer, and arranger who has shaped a large slice of the contemporary Sinhala pop and singles scene from behind the mixing desk as much as in front of the microphone. He is best known as a founding member of the trio Funky Dirt and as the producer and composer behind a long run of modern singles by younger artists.

Career and breakthrough

Maddumage began in the studio rather than the spotlight, working as an engineer and programmer alongside established pop figures and producing tracks at Colombo recording studios. An early calling card was the multi-artist Valentine’s release “Meena Dasa Asha” (2011), a love song that pulled together a group of well-known singers and put his name in the producer’s chair.

Over the following decade he became one of the more prolific producers in the singles era of Sinhala music, arranging and composing for a steady stream of vocalists.
