This is a Sinhala Christmas carol that opens on a sparkling picture, dewdrops dancing on the snow, and the announcement that the son of god is born. The infant prince, baby Jesus, has come into the world and spread his fragrance through it. As in most Sinhala carols the snow is a borrowed image, used for the wonder and freshness it lends the scene.

From the birth the song opens outward into gratitude for the whole of creation, treating each thing as a gift of the same love. The sun sharing its light, the moon drawing out coolness, eyes that can see the world and ears that can hear its sweetness, all of it, the carol repeats, is the love that gave us a world and gave us heart and body.

The last verse widens the circle further, to birds singing, animals roaming, flowers and vines offered up to make the world fragrant. Each becomes proof of the love that, in the end, gave us our very humanity. It is a warm, thankful carol that folds the birth of Christ into a celebration of the created world itself, and the love the singer sees behind all of it.
