A young man is letting the woman he loves go, and the whole song is him telling her not to cry over him. That is where it opens, with him almost pleading: don’t let even one tear fall from your eyes for my sake. He doesn’t want her pity dressed up as love. If she stays with him only because she feels sorry for him, he would rather she didn’t. There is a quiet pride in that, the kind that comes from loving someone enough to refuse anything that isn’t whole.

The second verse tells you why they can’t be together. She gave him her first love, her කුළුදුල් සෙනෙහස, that pure unspoiled affection a person feels only once, and she gave it with her whole heart. But her parents never accepted him. In a Sri Lankan story this is everything, because a marriage the parents won’t bless rarely survives, and so the line “the one your parents never wished for” carries the weight of the whole obstacle in a few words. He knows what it costs him: if he steps back, he is the one left alone in the world.

By the last verse he has made his peace with it. He pictures the two of them as people walking the same road who will never actually meet, two lives running side by side but never joining. That image of a shared path with no meeting point is the ache of the song, so close and still impossible. And he chooses it willingly. He will carry the loneliness for the rest of his days if that is what lets her be at ease.

What stays with you is how gentle his sacrifice is. He isn’t angry, he isn’t begging her to fight for him. He simply asks her not to waste her tears, and quietly takes all the pain onto himself so she can be free of it. It is love measured not by holding on, but by how much he is willing to let go.
