This is a bitter, worn-down breakup song about how constant fault-finding can kill a love. Because there was nokkadu, nagging criticism, in every single word, the singer says, his love finally overflowed and broke. He tried always just to endure it, but clashing and clashing, all she gave him in the end was pain.

The images are of something that quietly burned out. The nest the two of them built has broken, and under its ash there were still embers, hurt smouldering out of sight. Then a new sun rose, he says, too big for her world, his way of saying she had found something or someone new, and the memory of them burned away under the bak-mee tree, a real tree that once held their moments together.

The ending is all disillusion. They once had so many conversations, so many plans, and he watched those plans shatter before his very eyes. The eyes she once soothed now weep, and, hardest of all, so many of the faults were left pinned on him. Written, strikingly, by a Buddhist monk, Rahathangama Nagitha Thero, it is a clear-eyed song about a relationship worn down by blame until nothing was left but ash.
