Senehasakata Aruthak Lyrics
Senehasakata aruthak purawannata
Ahase tharu genna...
Werale rala menna...
Seemawak maayimak nathai ki
Senehasa ai dethenak thaniwi
Kekulak sidunin hadawatha pipunu
Kanduleth athumatha wisa thibuna
Bindunoth bandunaka piliyam karanata
Bari kelalak mathuwi penena...
Senehasakata aruthak...
Pawakina pera ath bhawayaka siduwu
Sithakin sithakata duka piruna
Mage atha digu kala haki hema thanadi
Oba atha ma durakin thibuna...
Senehasakata aruthak...
Senehasakata Aruthak Lyrics English Translation
To fill our love with meaning
I counted the stars in the sky…
I measured the waves on the shore…
The love we said had no limit, no boundary,
why is it now left alone in two separate places?
A bud broke open and my heart came into bloom,
yet even on the petals of my tears there was poison.
A broken vessel can never be mended,
a scar rises up that stays in sight…
To fill our love with meaning… //
From some wrong done in a past life,
sorrow passed from one heart to the other.
Everywhere I could stretch out my hand,
your hand stayed far away from me…
To fill our love with meaning… //

Senehasakata Aruthak Song Meaning and Interpretation
A young man is looking back on a love that meant everything to him and still fell apart. He starts in the language of someone ready to do anything to prove how deep his feeling runs. To give their love its full meaning he says he counted the stars in the sky and measured the waves on the shore, impossible tasks that stand for a devotion with no end. That is why his question cuts so hard: if this was a love they swore had no limit and no boundary, why are the two of them now alone in two separate places.
The middle of the song carries the wound. He pictures his heart opening like a flower bud, the rush of new love, but then says that even on the petals of his tears there was poison, the same love that opened him is what hurt him. Then comes the image that holds the whole song. In Sinhala there is an old idea that a clay vessel, once it cracks, can be patched but never made whole again, and the mended line always shows. He uses that here: a broken pot can be repaired, but a scar rises to the surface that never goes away. That scar is what is left of them.
The last verse reaches for the way Sri Lankans often make sense of pain that has no clear cause. He blames it on some wrong done in a past life, the Buddhist idea of karma carried across rebirths, so that the sorrow seems fated, passed from one heart into the other long before they ever met. The final lines are the quiet heartbreak of the song: no matter where he reached out his hand, her hand was always just beyond it. They were close enough to love each other and never close enough to hold on.
What you are left with is not anger but a tired, aching acceptance. He is not asking her to come back. He is sitting with the truth that some loves are real and still cannot be saved, and that the mark they leave stays for good.
