A man is speaking to the one he loves, and the whole song rests on a quiet belief that runs deep in Sinhala feeling: that two people who love each other truly do not meet by chance, and will not part for good. He calls the time they shared his “beautiful past,” and from there he is certain she still lives inside his heart, which means their paths are bound to cross again.

The lovely turn here is the word “ethi” that closes nearly every line, “are sure to,” “must still.” He is not asking or hoping; he is stating what he trusts will happen, the way you would speak of something already settled. That calm certainty is the mood of the song. Through tears, sighs, and the happy smiles in between, all the ordinary weather of a life, he believes she will stay near him. And on the day his heart is as moved as it is now, he says he will lay it down at her name, an old image of devotion, offering yourself like flowers placed before something sacred.

The last verse stretches the love past this one life. “Aathma ganane” means life after life, birth after birth, the idea of saṃsāra, the long cycle of rebirth in which souls keep returning. He says that just as they have always found each other across those lives, they will find each other this way again. Trouble may come, but because she came into his life, he is sure he will come through it.

What stays with you is how gentle and unshaken it all is. There is no panic of separation, no begging. It is the comfort of someone who has decided that a love this real is woven into the fabric of his many lives, and that no ending is really an ending.
