Endless like the sky, endless like the sea. The song opens on that and never really comes down from it. A voice is talking straight to someone it loves, and the word it keeps circling back to is ananta, endless, having no edge. In Sinhala, the sky and the ocean are the two things you reach for when you want to say a thing cannot be measured, so setting the beloved next to both of them in the opening lines is a very large claim, said quite calmly.

Then comes the line that gives the song its shape: in this whole universe, all I see is only you. The rest is proof. Each couplet names a place, and each one ends the same way, “there too you are.” Eight times over. The repetition works like a soft drumbeat, and with every pair the world gets a little wider while the answer stays the same.

Look at what the places are. First the making of things: a string being tuned into a new note, a cup of sweet wine brimming over, a paintbrush tip dipping into colour, a pen nib slowly wearing itself away. Music, sweetness, painting, writing. The pen is the loveliest of the four, because it is not the finished poem being praised but the tool spending itself in the middle of the work. Wherever someone is making something beautiful, the beloved is already in the room.

Then the song steps outside. A half moon slipping behind cloud, a line of waves rolling in and breaking on the sand. These are not dramatic images, they are the ordinary quiet ones you would see on any evening at the coast. And it closes with pure feeling on the skin: a coolness settling over you, a warmth being handed to you. No grand summing up, no final flourish. The list simply stops at the smallest and most human thing it can find.

What you are left holding is a kind of adoration that has stopped asking for anything. The voice is not begging or missing or waiting. It has reached the point where the person it loves has soaked into everything it looks at, art, water, moonlight, the temperature of the air.
