Giman Harina Diyamba Dige Lyrics
Giman harina diyamba dige
Susum helana verala ime
Basa yana hiru adasi sandata rahas kiyanava
Sanda adarayanen ahasa pura rata mavanava...
Hit dahane velli thibunu
Neth dahane gala helunu
Miyadenata bala hindapu adarayada me
Hiru rahase kiya dunna adarayada me...
Nil katarolu nila nehavuna
Mal gava mudu suva rendavuna
Thol peti kal hala dalana adarayada me
Nuba rahase kiya dunna adarayada me...
Giman harina...
Giman Harina Diyamba Dige Lyrics English Translation
Along the wide sea that cools as the heat fades
Along the shore that breathes its sighs
The setting sun whispers its secrets to the half-shut moon
And the moon, with love, draws patterns across the whole sky…
Wound tight in the meditation of the heart
Spilling and flowing from the meditation of the eyes
Is this a love that waited only to die?
Is this the love the sun told me of in secret?
Where the blue katarolu flowers were bathed in blue
Where the soft sweetness of a garland of flowers lingered
Is this a love that lays its lips to rest at the end?
Is this the love you told me of in secret?
Along the wide sea that cools as the heat fades…

Giman Harina Diyamba Dige Song Meaning and Interpretation
This is a quiet, almost meditative song that stands at the seashore at dusk and asks a single, aching question: what kind of love is this? It is less a story about one person and more a slow turning-over of love itself, set against the sea, the sun and the moon as evening comes on.
The opening draws the picture before it says anything about feeling. The sea is “giman harina,” letting go of the day’s heat, settling and cooling as the sun drops. The shore “sighs,” the way a tired person breathes out, and the setting sun leans close to the moon to whisper secrets. That image of the “adasi sanda,” the half-shut, half-risen moon, is tender on purpose: the sun is leaving, the moon is arriving, and in that handover the dying light passes something private to the night. Then the moon, full of love, spreads patterns across the whole sky, the soft colours of twilight read here as love painting itself out in the open. The whole scene is the moment between day and night standing in for the moment between holding on and letting go.
Out of that calm picture the real question rises. The singer speaks of a love that was wrapped tight inside the heart’s stillness (“hit dahane,” the heart held in meditation) and yet poured out as tears from the eyes (“neth dahane,” the eyes in that same trance). He asks whether this is a love that only sat and waited to die, or the very love the setting sun confided to him in secret. He is not sure whether to grieve it or to treasure it, and he turns to nature, the sun, the moon, to tell him what it was.
The last verse reaches for fragile, fading images. The blue katarolu flowers steeped in their own blue, the gentle sweetness clinging to a garland, lips that finally come to rest, all of these are things at the end of their bloom, beauty just before it fades. Asking again if this is the love “you told me of in secret,” he leaves the answer open. The song does not resolve into joy or loss; it lingers, the way dusk lingers, and leaves you holding the same soft, unanswered question it began with, that love and parting can look almost the same in the half-light.
